It must be you New York, New York!

A few weeks ago I flew out to New York for a weekend. I’d never been and wanted to for years and years.

Nancy was kind enough to come as my guide and bodyguard. We left late Thursday night and flew a redeye on JetBlue. I’d never flown JetBlue before and it was pretty nice. Each seat was leather and had more legroom than most airlines. We also got our own TV screen for every seat that had a bunch of DirecTV channels on it. I personally liked this more than the “here is the movie we are going to show you, take it or leave it” the airlines usually do. We landed at JFK airport at 7:30am. Nancy negotiated a ride into Manhattan to the hotel we were staying at (just a few blocks from Times Square). With morning traffic, it took almost two hours to get to the hotel. We checked in and walked down to Rockefeller Center to get Conan tickets but they gave them all out at 9am. It was now 9:50am. Seeing Conan O’Brien live is on my list of things to do before I die and I didn’t get it done on this trip. I was bummed at first, but really it just gives me another excuse to go to New York.

We walked out and it was pouring rain.

We bought an umbrella and walked around town. I saw Times Square and we ate at a really good Italian restaurant. We went to the Virgin megastore and Toys R Us…

…”differently-abled kids”? wtf? what ad wizard came up with that one?

And we went in the M&M shop. This sign was by a door in the shop. Clever little M&M people.

I told Nancy to try and look pissed even though she was surrounded by all kinds of candy. I think she did a good job :)

We stopped at the Marriot box office that evening and we decided to see Crybaby. Neither of us knew much about it. It’s a musical comedy based in the 1950′s and it was great. Pictures were illegal, so I took one sneakily. This is where they are singing about kissing with tongue :)

On Saturday the sun was out. We had seen a poster for MacBeth starring Patrick Stewart and I really wanted to see it. We went to the ticket booth at Times Square with the half price tickets and bought a couple. Then we jumped on the subway and headed down to Canal street. I didn’t want to know what was in this truck…

We walked through Little Italy and Chinatown, stopping to have lunch at a noodle shop. The lady next to us ate duck feet with a straight face. And Nancy made friends with the locals.

We stopped by Union Square on the way back. Then back to Times Square to see MacBeth.

It was a retelling in World War 2 times. It was amazing. I loved it.

On our way back we stopped by Taste DLite and the Hershey’s store.

We went back to the hotel and rooftop had transformed into a bar/club. I took a picture off the side.

On Sunday we walked around Central Park and ended up at the Met. The place is huge and we didn’t get to see all of it, but we skipped to the sections we wanted to see.

After the Met closed, we stopped by a local pizza cafe and headed back to hotel to meet up with our taxi to take us back to the airport.

Throw in a JetBlue flight back and bam! I’m back in the P H X.
